    Case Study: Using NGP VAN's Phone Tools to "Awaken Democracy"

    This spring, more than 250 organizations representing a diverse array of movements and thousands of people are coming together in Washington, DC for Democracy Awakening - to mobilize to protect voting rights, get big money out of politics, and demand fair consideration of President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee. Groups like People for the American Way, MoveOn.org, NAACP, LCV Education Fund, Equality Federation, and many others have joined forces for this massive weekend of events. Mobilizing progressive activists on such a huge scale takes a lot of work and requires sophisticated organizing tools - so when event organizers began planning their outreach, they knew NGP VAN could help.

    Optimization Wins: New Online Forms Improve Conversions by 5.9 Percent

    I wear a lot of hats at NGP VAN, but my highest priority is being obsessed with conversion rates. That’s why today, I'm excited to share a big development: according to our most recent analysis, NGP VAN customers are enjoying 5.9 percent higher conversion rates on their online forms.  I'm pretty excited about this. Actually, I'm downright giddy.  Here's a look at the new features that make our online forms lean, mean, converting machines.

    NGP VAN had a Hackathon earlier in the year for our development teams. My fellow developers and I had the latitude to work on anything we wanted, and my first inclination was to work on political contributions using Bitcoin. I wanted to work on Bitcoin because (a) it's something a lot of developers, organizations, and companies have been talking about but no one has done yet, and (b) I'm very interested in digital currencies. As my coworkers will attest, I've been excited about Bitcoin since before pretty much anyone else had even heard about it. I may have even driven a few coworkers crazy with my talk about the project for the whole month leading up to the hackathon.

     It's very exciting and gratifying to see my NGP VAN hackathon project, the OpenVPB.com site, finally launched and in use! Having made my fair share of phone calls over the past decade or so, in elections up and down the ballot, I know the importance of phone banks at every stage of a field operation. Organizers ask their volunteers to make calls to identify supportive voters, recruit supporters to events, and of course, to get out the vote on election day. Phone banks are as much a part of our electoral process as Labor Day parades and yard signs.

  • Introducing NGP VAN's New Turf Management Tool

    A couple years ago, NGP VAN started collecting turf management user stories for our turf cutting tool. We’ve always been proud to have best in class tools for cutting and managing turf, but we are also always looking for ways to do better. Over time, we introduced live editing of turfs, reduced the number of clicks it took to draw turf and save turfs, made the overall look and feel cleaner and easier to work with, and released auto-cutting turf. All of those features were geared toward allowing organizers to create turf and edit their turfs faster and more accurately.
