NGP VAN Hires Bryan Whitaker as COO

WASHINGTON, DC – NGP VAN, the nation’s leading technology provider to Obama for America and thousands of Democratic campaigns and progressive organizations announced that it has hired Bryan Whitaker, currently head of technology at the Democratic National Committee, to be its Chief Operating Officer.

This is a perfect match,” said Stuart Trevelyan, NGP VAN’s CEO. He continued, “Bryan is one of the most respected people in the progressive technology ecosystem. His insights into the intersection of Democratic campaigns, labor unions, progressive organizations, and technology, along with his proven record for innovation in the fast-moving field of political technology, are simply unmatched. Our company and our clients will benefit immediately from this new relationship.”

In his role as Technology Director at the DNC, Whitaker has overseen the Democratic Party’s technology efforts, working with Obama for America, State Democratic Parties, and other Democratic committees on software development, analytics architecture, and the Democratic Party’s national voter file system and field tools, including the VAN/VoteBuilder systems and the NGP fundraising and compliance product. At NGP VAN, Whitaker will continue to support the DNC and Democratic State parties, as well as the other clients.

Having worked closely with NGP VAN as a client for the last eight years, I’m looking forward to being part of the strongest technology company in our space,” said Whitaker. “I’m excited to continue working with Democrats and progressives to build our competitive advantage.”

Before joining the DNC, Whitaker was the founding Director of Field Information Services at the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), where he managed an organization-wide data services department. Prior to starting as a Political Analyst at SEIU in 2005, Bryan was a field organizer for the Sierra Club in the Southern Appalachian Mountains and for John Kerry for President in Iowa, Michigan, and Ohio.

With a new title of Chief Technology Officer, John Lee will continue in his role of driving the continued integration and convergence of NGP VAN’s product suite across organizing, fundraising, and digital lines. To that end, he leads, shapes, and grows the high-performing development teams that build and support NGP VAN’s industry leading product suite.

This announcement comes on the heels of other notable achievements for NGP VAN.  On April 5, Organizing for America announced that it has selected the VAN to provide database services for its organizing and mobilization nationwide. Later that evening, the American Association of Political Consultants awarded NGP VAN’s Social Organizing module its “Campaign Excellence Award” for “Best Use of New Technology,” for its use by the Elizabeth Warren for Senate Campaign.

NGP VAN is the leading technology provider to Democratic and progressive campaigns and organizations, offering clients an integrated platform of the best fundraising, organizing, and digital products.

NGP VAN counts thousands of campaigns and organizations amongst its clients, including President Obama’s reelection, all the national Democratic committees, thousands of Democratic campaigns, thousands of progressive PACs and non-profits, and non-partisan PACs and other organizations.

Publications like TechCrunchMashable, and ClickZ covered NGP VAN’s innovative Social Organizing product, writing “The potential power of Social Organizing is impressive.”
