Creator of VAN Recognized with “Most Innovative Product,” “Best Use of Social Networking” Awards

Washington, D.C. — NGP VAN, creator of the nationwide VAN product that serves as the organizing infrastructure for Democrats and progressives, was honored Friday evening for their ongoing work providing innovative campaign technology. The prestigious Reed Awards, presented by Campaigns and Elections Magazine, recognize the latest techniques and talent in the business. NGP VAN was honored with the Most Innovative Product of the Year award and the Best Use of Social Networking Technology award (for the Elizabeth Warren for Senate campaign's use of Social Organizing).

Social Organizing is the latest addition to NGP VAN’s suite of integrated campaign technology. It allows a client’s supporters to log into the interface and match their Facebook friends to the voter file. Once this “social mapping” process is completed, the supporter is asked to take targeted actions like calling or emailing their friends and targeted voters, applying social pressure to get to the polls and vote the right way. Users of Social Organizing are encouraged to take greater activity through game dynamics like points, achievement badges, and supporter leaderboards. Social Organizing enhances the voter file for the rest of the campaign’s field and voter contact work by adding valuable relationship codes. Since all contacts are automatically logged in the VAN, field staff can easily integrate the use of Social Organizing with the rest of their field efforts.
